Freezer & Ice Maker Repair in Tacoma & University Place

Half the homes we visit between Gig Harbor and Federal Way keep a second freezer — chest units full of summer salmon, uprights holding a side of beef bought sensibly on sale. When one of those warms up, the loss is measured in hundreds of dollars of food, so freezer calls get urgency on our board.

Cold Storage, Kept Cold

Ice makers are the opposite problem: nobody loses dinner over one, but a dead ice maker annoys a household daily. Fortunately they are modular, well understood, and usually a one-visit fix.

Freezer diagnosis mirrors refrigerator work: temperatures, frost pattern, compressor behavior. Garage installs add a wrinkle — many cabinets are rated for a narrower ambient range than a Northwest garage actually delivers, and we will tell you when the location, not the machine, is the fault.

Ice maker work is mostly the module, the inlet valve or the water path: a pinched line, a frozen fill tube, a filter overdue by a year. We test water pressure and freeze cycle end to end rather than swapping the module on faith.

For sealed-system failures on old chest freezers we give the same honest arithmetic as on refrigerators — sometimes the repair pencils out, sometimes the money belongs in a new box, and we would rather keep your trust than sell the wrong repair.

Symptoms We Hear on the Phone

  • Chest freezer creeping from 0°F toward 20°F
  • Heavy frost on one interior wall
  • Ice maker silent — no fill hum, no harvest clunk
  • Cubes small, hollow, or tasting stale
  • Ice fused into a single block in the bin
  • Garage freezer fine all winter, struggling in August

Questions

Asked Before Booking

How long will food hold if the freezer dies?

A full chest freezer holds safe temperatures roughly two days unopened, half that when lightly loaded. Keep the lid shut and call early in the day — warm-freezer calls get same-day priority most weekdays.

Why does my ice taste off?

Stale water path or an exhausted filter, most often. A filter change and a few discarded harvests usually clears it; if not, we look at the tank and lines.

Can you fix the ice maker without replacing the whole fridge module?

Often the fault is the valve or fill line rather than the module itself — cheaper either way. We test before we replace.
